Happy Father’s Day Dad

It’s Father’s Day and Dad’s in California. I wish I could be there to take him to breakfast. Or, maybe I could help him in the yard. He’d probably enjoy either; probably breakfast more at home. We have great times around the table for dinner or breakfast.

He is just the coolest Dad!

Many great lunches have been en route somewhere. Mom having made sandwiches peels the plastic bag back for dad to eat while he drives to some fun place. With our bunch, the ride itself was fun. Dr. Dimento, riding old Highway 99 in California. Belching contests as we went over the Grapevine; we used a cassette recorder for instant replay.

As I write I’m reminded of another great dad, Grampa Alden. That’s Mom’s dad. We all talk about Grampa and his girls. Mom would say, “He loves his girls”. Grama Nimmy, Mom, and the four of us, Dad’s girls. Nothing ordinary or “of course” about that love at all. I think of Grampa Alden as I think of Dad and how he is with each of us. I have a picture of him now and it comes with a physical warmth that touches my heart. “How he loves his girls.” No, “of course” about that at all!

I’m grateful to be blessed with both parents in my life. I’m grateful to be blessed with such amazing people in my life. Mother and daughter relationships, I should speak for myself really. Mom and I are so much alike. I feel so connected with her. We have so much in common. As I get older, I’d like to have even more in common with her.

Getting older, I’m so honored to say mom did marry a man a lot like her dad. He’s highly sensitive; he has an amazing sense of humor, he’s one of the kindest, wisest men I know. I learn that not because I’m getting older, but because I’m closing my mouth a bit more to listen. It’s a gift to be his daughter. “He loves his girls.”
